Adam Kimball Roberts Mission to Philippines Quezon City Mission

Baptism So yeah last Saturday we baptized one of our investigators Brother D. He is a freaking beast! He is my first hard woork conversion. I  mean all converts are hard to convert.  But let's talk about this particular convert. Ok first WORD OF WISDOM : so yeah Brother D. smoked about two packs a day when we first met him along with the fact that all the time when we would come to visit him he would be hardcore drunk also drank coffee but everyone here drinks coffee. Needless to say this required lots of life changes. ATTITUDE: Yeah so when we first started teaching I remember kinda thinking like "Ummm is this worth it?" because he was straight up one of the most sarcastic people I've ever met.  OTHER PROBLEMS: So yeah, along with that he would straight up spend all day on the computer and he didn't have a job like super unmotivated. He had some Law Of Chastit y stuff nothing huge but I mean it was law of chastity so still a big deal. But slowly b...

So this last Tuesday we got to go the temple! Which was awesome! It was my first time going to the temple here in the Philippines which was amazing and wonderful. It was like getting plugged in and being revitalized it was awesome!  I'll send the pictures next pday because this place doesn't have anywhere to plug in my memory card. Anyways we're doing well we had 9 investigators at church which was a happy suprise! Also a bunch of less activities our chapel was full! It was a miracle!

So here are a few cool stories about service that we did this week  Built a House We helped one of our recent converts (I was the one who baptized her) to build her house which was super fun and awesome all by itself (pics will follow). But what made it even better was our recent converts kids are "dating daan" which in Tagalog means the old way.  Anyways they do not like Mormons and while we were still teaching Nanay Emma, our Recent convert, they would wait till we left and be like "Noooo Mormons suck! Dont become Mormon!" and like when we would come over they would take over the house of our RC (again at this point she was an investigator) and play Dating daan propaganda on her TV  This actually worked awesome for us because what happened was we just taught her in the houses of her neighbors and taught her neighbors too! (one of them will be baptized this may!) So actually at the time that was awesome that they hated us  But anywho when they saw...

WAVES So if you remember my last email about the pastor debating with me this story is about what happened because of that.  Ok so where it took place was in this super poor squatters area in our area and so basically everyone knows everyone because in these squatters areas the walls are like paper thin and they all live right next to each other. They all kinda rely on each other like if the jeepnie driver didn't make enough money to feed his family that day he can just go to his neighbors and they will give him food and then the next day he has a better day so he just like shares his food with everyone. This is just so awesome, you gotta love Filipinos!  Anywho so word spread about what happened with the pastor. Because they heard about that we have had a few people come up and be like yoooo are you that white dude that speaks Tagalog and debated with the INC  (Iglesia ni Christo) ? and I'm just kinda like yeah that's me! Ambush Alright so it wasn't until this experience that I more fully realized how vulnerable we are as missionaries.  All our lives we are told "Hey don't talk to strangers. Don't go home with anyone you don't know. Don't give people your information."  Yeah well now all of a sudden its like "Ok disregard all that we are gonna send you into a country full of people who are desperate and straight just see you as a walking money sign and your job is to talk to all of them and try to get them to let you in their house."  Anywho so what happened was we just got done teaching at one of our RC's houses and her neighbor is like "Hey come to my house and teach me." and as missionaries we would have to be crazy to pass up that opportunity. We spend hours a day trying to convince people to listen to us and then all of a sudden this dude contacts us so yeah were like "Ok lets go!" Our RC is like "Huwag ayun iglesia a...

Yeah its going pretty ok, I would even say extremely average. Haha nah I'm kiddin' its going well! This has been a pretty stressful week but I've learned a ton about relying on the lord.  This last transfer I'll be real I got a little lazy in my prayers. I felt like I could speak Tagalog and like I had mission life pretty down and we had tons of progressing investigators.  So I got kinda chill and relaxed and I'm pretty sure the man upstairs saw that and was probably like "I swear this kid never learns his lesson, alright you think you don't need me and that you got mission life down? Booom how 'bout you train someone else how to be a missionary!
