BINYAG (Baptism) D&C 18:15

http://latterdaymommy.com/tagalog-lds-quotes-memes/ OK , so here's the thing, missionary work will just beat the crap out of you some days! (most days)  My time here has by far been the hardest, some days saddest, and loneliest time of my life. And here's  the thing, no one really appreciates how hard you are trying with the language especially when you aren't good at speaking the language. I think they all kinda assume you just aren't trying. But the reality is I have been working the hardest I've ever worked at anything! But all the efforts, headaches, sweat and tears have all been made worth it! This week we baptized three people and one of them looked back at me after I baptized her with tears in her eyes and said "Thank you."  I would go through 5 years of what I have gone through to feel that joy!  How blessed am I that I got it after just 6 weeks? It's been real good love you all!  Love,  Elder Roberts D&C 18:15 ...

Superstition   Yeah people here are freaking soooo superstitious   I have two stories.   First the witch story sege ( go ahead)   So me and my comp are just walkin regular day. I'm saying "Hey" to everyone, as we are walking I see this woman who is at least a million. She is so freaking old, anywho, so she's lookin at me and I'm a missionary so I say "Mandang hapon" (good afternoon) and she lifts up one of her gnarled ancient fingers and starts like making this gargling, growling, humming sound. I'm just like "Huh?" and my comp starts pushing me and is like "Walk faster that witch is casting a spell on you." So here's the deal I'm pretty sensible every time anyone says they saw a ghost or are spooked out. I'm like nah that's ridiculous. But when he said she was casting a freaking spell on me you best believe I hightailed it outa there!   So yeah if I mysteriously go missing I'm probably one...

1. Guitar guy: coolest story in this whole email by far 2. Area: just telling you about my area 3. Missionary scripture: talking about how much i have improved 4. GOOD NEWS: the best thing happened    Guitar guy so ok me and my comp are visiting one of the recent converts in our branch and were just sitting there talking to him and i see this guy in the background and his arms are flaying around and hes walking weird and first thought was like probably another drunk guy. yeah not a drunk guy he came to talk to us and he was actually blind so lesson 1 dont judge people! anyways so hes sitting there as we are visiting with the RC and i see a guitar on the couch and i ask our RC if its his. nope its the blind guys so i was like oh cool would you mind playing for us? so he picks up his guitar and plays some filippino song and finishes and asks what we want him to play so no joke the next hour we just keep telling this guy different songs and he knows exactly how to ...

1. Ipis: story about my battle with a monster in my apartment 2. Tatay: Appreciate your dads 3. Pagkain 2.0: the food here isn't all bad 4. Ghosts: the title explains what this is about Ipis   Ok so Ipis means cockroach in Tagalog and they are all over my apartment!   Anywhooo so I saw one on the floor for the first time and I'm like yeah. Bawal walang ipis sa bahay ko ! ( Cockroaches are forbidden in my house.) So I punted that sucker.   Ok but before I go on the cockroaches here are enormous. Like this one was probably 3 inches long and like an inch across. Oh yeah and they fly and not only do they fly they also bite and not just like aww darn I got a cockroach bite. These bad boys will take a chunk outa ya and the bite can get infected because they are filthy   Anywhooo I forgot all that when I kicked this sucker.  He seemed pretty ok with the first kick he just scuttled around in the ...

Ok its time for 100% honesty the last two weeks have by far been the most difficult time of my life! I can also see how they are for my benefit! Someone told me my future children are watching me right now and that made me think about how these struggles aren't just making me a better missionary but a better future father and husband! I'm going to split up the stories from this week again.   1. Patotoo (T estimony)  : A story about me bearing my testimony 2. Lumalakad (G oing) : How I travel 3. Pagkain (Food): The food here 4. Mga bagay maliit ( Little things) : The story of going shopping last week Patotoo (T estimony) OK so me and my comp are teaching a lesson to an investigator who we will just call Sister Investigator.  So I can't speak alot of Tagalog because the language is so difficult! (I'll start telling you guys more about the language in another email).  Anywhooo so a lot of the lessons consist of my c...

Week 1 in the Field

Ok so there is so much to email about so I decided to break it up into 5 different subject headings and will tell you what order you should read them for the sake of time. 1. Stand out: Just funny stories about how big (literally) of an oddity I am here 2. B-ball : This story is pretty funny 3. Number 2: This story is hilarious but do not read if you don't like potty talk or plan on dating me after I get back 4. Jungle hike : This story is mostly just crazy and pretty cool. 5. The people : Mostly telling of the faith and generosity of the people here. Stand out  OK as I expected I stand out a ton! What I didn't expect was the reactions of the people to how much I stand out. To explain this I'll tell you about one of the lessons I taught. Ok so me and my comp were teaching a lesson to this family of about 10 people and at the end I say do you have any questions?  (Yeah not my best move) Suddenly all the kids start yelling "Bakit puting ka?...
