Hindi ako meronong na maginglish
Things are going good we got to go on exchanges with foreign missionaries from the MTC and mine was from New Zealand and he didn't speak any Tagalog but he was like 6'5" so I just went finding with him because being two white giants in the Philippines we found a ton of people and all day I have people like "Wow you are so good at Tagalog! How did you learn to speak Fluently??"and I was just like actually "I'm from the Philippines I'm just an albino." and they are like "Ohhhh ok that makes sense." I usually said like "Nah I'm just kidding!" but yeah they bought it which was cool.
But here's the thing that comes at the cost of me speaking Tagalog I freaking suck at speaking English! Like while i was on exchanges with the New Zealander we just spoke English because that's all this dude speaks and I was having soooo much trouble understanding him! Like he has an accent which made it hard but I know I still would've understood him normally its just my brain was in Tagalog mode so like while he would talk to me I was like trying to pick out the Tagalog when he was speaking English and it was hardcore messing with my brain.
Another story about how I suck at English is yesterday we had a dinner appointment with a member and while we were there the mom asked me to give a blessing to her son and I was like no problem due to the lack of activity of the males here in the Philippines I'm pretty used to giving blessings but then she said something that made me nervous she asked me to bless him in English.... uh oh... I mean yeah no problem I'm fluent in English Right??
So yeah, I blessed this kid and I'll be real I was strugggggling! like I was able to do it but I had to like say things in more simplified English and like I kept pausing trying to think of words.
Last story is with one of our investigators who is trying to get a job at a call center which means he's got to speak really good English so he's been asking me to teach him English so the other day we did this practice job interview and I kept speaking Tagalog and he would be like no stop speak English and I'd be like oh dang! I wasn't speaking English sorry and then I'd speak English with him again haha but you know I've only got 14 more months of this so yeah I'm sure I'll be able to understand you guys when I get home
